Carlos Edwards, Luke Chambers and Daryl Murphy were on target as Town finally confirmed their place in the Championship for 2013/14 with a 3-1 home victory over Birmingham. Edwards hammered in a stunning strike in the sixth minute, Chambers headed in the second on 17 and Murphy added the third before Chris Burke pulled one back late on for the visitors.

New Blues boss Mick McCarthy was delighted to pick up a victory in his first game as Town manager. DJ Campbell’s first-half goal was enough to see McCarthy’s Blues to a 1-0 win over Birmingham at St Andrew’s.

DJ Campbell’s third goal in five games for the Blues saw Town to a 1-0 victory over his old club Birmingham City at St Andrew’s in new manager Mick McCarthy's first game in charge. The Blues were the better side in the first half and were worthy of their lead at the break, but the home team came into it more in a second period in which sub Nikola Zigic failed to take two good chances.

Town’s U15s fell to a 3-2 defeat to Manchester United’s youngsters in their annual Portman Road showcase friendly on Friday evening. The young Blues were the better side before the break but both their goals — scored by Nick Ingram and Sean McKirdy - came in injury time of a second half in which the visitors had largely been on top.

Two goals from Nikola Zigic, both from long throws from the left, saw Birmingham to a 2-1 victory over the Blues at St Andrew’s. Town deserved more from the game with Lee Martin slamming in a superb equaliser and the winger should have been awarded a second half penalty prior to the Serb’s final moments winner.
